²⁷For it is written:

“Rejoice, barren woman
    who does not bear;
break forth and shout,
    you who have no labor pains!
For the desolate has many more children
    than she who has a husband.”^[a]

²⁸Now we, brothers, like Isaac, are the children of promise. ²⁹But as it was then, he who was born after the flesh persecuted him who was born after the Spirit, so it is now also.
